La Jabalina (“the Javelin”) is a secular adventuring company of Caldero, named after the mythic point of creation that wounded nothingness. It once numbered eight; two remain.

| Spanish entry | La Jabalina — los ocho que protegen Caldero |
Name and nature
The name derives from “the point, literally, the point of the alliance of creation that wounded nothingness, suffering, darkness, despair”. Its foundation is that cosmogony, not a cult, and it answers to no god. One joins by transformation: “you became part of the javelin”. Its only stated rule is a prohibition: «Con los niños no» (“Not with children”). In the mythic register it is “a scheme of creation capable of destroying the seas”.
Standing
The company names itself and demands to be named: “from now on, speak of us by the name of La Jabalina”. Asked “what is your name?” by local authority after a victory, that is the answer on record. Civil power holds it both “a relatively honorable group” and a group with “a criminal record”.
Deeds
- Saved 1,200,000 souls.
- Completed Shackle City entirely.
- Ambushed the escort of Lord Valanthru at a little-used crossroads to expose him; his destruction was declared. Luvina and Sabina were then placed in the custody of Teo’s arm and La Jabalina, as proof of it.
The ordinary javelin
The everyday javelin is a large projectile carried three at a time in a quiver on the back; it can miss. It appears as loot and in the hands of large enemy creatures. Lucky, a member, declares “a very deep bond” with the chosen weapons, “the sword and the javelin”.
Base
The base camp is the World of Recon, on the transitional plane, not to be confused with Arcadia.
Conflicting accounts
- One stray note treats La Jabalina as a ship; all other accounts treat it as a band and a weapon.
Open questions
- Who the two remaining members are, and how the other six were lost.
- What Luvina and Sabina are, and what the “criminal record” consists of.
- Whether the “destruction of Barandru” (or “Balántruc”) refers to Lord Valanthru or another entity.
- How the mythic point relates to ordinary javelins.
- What “the javelin has to wait for”, and whose “nine years” away are meant.
