The Howler is a hybrid creature, half troll and half infernal beast, the personal pet of Kazmojen, lord of the Malachite Fortress. “Howler” names its kind.
| Type | Creature (troll / infernal beast hybrid) |
| Master | Kazmojen |
| Location | Malachite Fortress; corridors beneath the Bazaar of Life |
| Spanish entry | El Howler |
Description
Mascor Blancarba (Caldero Gazette) describes its dark fur and predatory stance, “like a living shadow”. Its plate shows it sniffing: snout raised, claws scraping wet stone, a collar with a broken ring, half lit by a corridor torch.
A low, guttural howl and a rhythmic scraping of claws precede it. The howl is territorial, telling other underground creatures that the territory is Kazmojen’s.
It is partly intelligent: it understands its master, tells a threat from possible business, and accepts a truce under disciplined diplomacy.
History
After the fight with the animated chains and the statue of Zenith Splintershield, Foggimer heard it and woke his companions. It emerged from a dark corridor, sniffing, ready to attack. Lukas stepped forward: “We are not enemies, we are looking for something we could buy. Perhaps we have business with your master.” Teo backed the lie with a smile. The Howler halted and, with a warning growl, withdrew.
In the final fight against Kazmojen in the Bazaar of Life, a figure hidden in the shadows suspended the Howler in the air with a spell, spreading panic among the enemies. The adventurers of La Jabalina (“the Javelin”) then defeated Kazmojen; the Howler was left in the fortress.

- The hidden figure may have been Vitalis, an agent of the Chronicler of the Plata, or a minor entity the archive does not fully record.
- The Howler’s fate after Kazmojen’s defeat is not recorded.
