History
When La Jabalina reached the orphanage carrying the wounded Rulfo and questioned the children about the disappearances, Jaromir stood out: visibly terrified and troubled by his nightmares. Convinced he knew more than he said, the adventurers asked to take him along, and Gretchyn reluctantly agreed. His clues led them to the workshop of Keygan Ghelve, a gnome locksmith who turned out to be an accomplice in the kidnappings.
Flight and fall
Jaromir saw Ayrton execute Ghelve by cutting his throat and fled in panic. Lukas and Foggimer ran after him while Ayrton, the mage and a third shadowy figure looted the workshop. The chase ended in a narrow alley thick with mist. Foggimer shouted for him to stop, but the boy did not listen. In front of him the ground gave way into a perfect black circle, a pit that swallowed the light of their lamps and did not exist on the real plane. Jaromir fell into it.
Lukas jumped after him, followed by Foggimer, Belicio and Teo. They slid down a chute of black stone coated in viscous slime into a black stone octagon on the lower sublevel of the Malachite Fortress, where they found him.
The fall was a deliberate cosmological trap: the octagonal pit was summoned by the intermediate negative pole, which recognized Jaromir as the key witness and dragged him down. Without him, the band would not have reached the Bazaar of Life so directly.
Rescue
Jaromir was one of four orphans rescued from the Bazaar of Life. Back at the orphanage he recognized Sila, the shadow monk, and stepped forward to seek that protection.
Status
Jaromir is an ordinary child of Caldero: not an avatar and not of identified noble lineage. In the present cycle he remains at the orphanage in the care of Gretchyn and Rulfo, slowly recovering from his nightmares.
