Tony Malatesta is the mage of La Jabalina (“the Javelin”) and one of its founders, known for unorthodox solutions: he would rather negotiate with a vampire or trade last words with a high priest than fight. He carries the clock of the Eiffel Tower.

Description

Mascor Blancarba calls him “the mage of Strange Ideas” in the Caldero Gazette, noting that many think him eccentric. His spells include complex divinations and control spells. He proposes dialogue before combat.

The Eiffel Tower clock

Tony carries an antique wall clock, found in the workshop of the locksmith Keygan Ghelve during the first mission, at the Bazaar of Life. Its hand is an intricate Eiffel Tower; its gears spark faintly with residual magic; marks on the frame seem to tell stories he cannot fully read. “There is history here, and a lot of it,” he murmurs. Its working is unresolved. It may be:

Negotiations

  • The Howler, the infernal troll-beast of Kazmojen in the Malachite Fortress: Lukas spoke in Tony’s style (“We are not enemies… perhaps we have business with your master”), and the Howler withdrew for two hours.
  • Kazmojen, at the Bazaar of Life: an approach as “interested buyers”, Tony’s strategy, failed through Teo’s impulsive intervention.
  • Other undocumented dealings with theosophist mages, furtive merchants and minor spirits of the Shadowfell.

The Miles Corp broom

Tony bought a flying broom from Miles Corp, part of the Miracle of Miles. City Star Magazine ran his photo under the headline “Magic or marketing?”, setting off a debate on whether such technology is the future of adventure or a tool of elite control; Tony takes no side. Flight serves him for aerial infiltration, tower observation and escape.

The workshop with Vitalis

Tony and Vitalis, the Sorcerer of the Blackwater River, spend hours in the workshop mixing powders and spices; a neighbor’s eyes glowed for a week after a visit. Hypotheses: industrial potions, temporal alchemy tied to Vitalis’s gift and the clock, cross-experiments between their magics, or research into Pablo’s line, to which the clock and the Blue House blood of the Blackwater both point. Gossip & Style asked whether the two could become alchemy magnates; neither comments.

Open questions

  • He is tentatively read as an operator adjacent to the Arian Line, or a candidate for the anticipated sixth avatar; this is not confirmed.
