The Apkalu (also Apkallu) are hawk-headed watchers that surfaced in the archive of Sogol, linked to the Hawk-Woman, whose lineage’s face they seem to keep. The two spellings are recorded as one entity.

CFA corpus

The Campaña Fin de Antiterra corpus makes them the watchers of the Akashic records.

  • Latea (Alatea) is one: the white-haired, eagle-headed woman of the planar oracle’s abode (the ETA), daughter of Horus. She guards the Akashic plane and notes what happened so it cannot be unsaid.
  • After performing the rite of total memory in Mechanus, Latea is devoured by the serpent Asmodeus in the attack on the 25th sun, and revived by Arian with something of the positive plane inside her. By devouring her Asmodeus consumed the Akashic memory she carried, one cause of the records breaking and reality turning malleable.

VTC corpus

  • The expedition returns with “the bird of wisdom”, “a dual being that might have been maleficent and was reconstituted into an Apkallu”.
  • An Apkallu can go to its sanctuary on the positive energy plane, “just where the Cakravartin cannot enter”.
  • The notebook ties it to the Breath and to evolution (“A Dual Being: the Breath, the Cakravartin evolving […] who becomes an Apkallu”) and places it with the lords who return upon the peoples of the earth.

Open questions

  • Whether the Sogol Apkalu (Hawk-Woman) and Latea, daughter of Horus, are one family or two faces of one motif is unsettled; for now a lineage rhyme.
