Description
The crater shields the city from attack but traps rainwater, which drains into the central lake. When it overflows, the slums of the lowest rings flood first, with lost goods and occasional deaths. Magic water-control wands divert flows, evaporate surplus water and stabilize the lake.
The 1824 AE conspiracy
In 1824 AE corrupt agents intercepted the wands at a distant inn, “El Mono Loco” (“the Crazy Monkey”). Corrupt nobles and arcane forces were plotting a ritual tied to the marks and the prophecy of the Cageewrights, with the floods as cover for removing witnesses, moving marked children and consolidating power.
The mission of La Jabalina
Led by the cleric Foggimer, La Jabalina went to El Mono Loco, fought the agents guarding the wands and recovered them, sparing Caldero. Clues from the theft pointed to the nobility, especially Valanthru and Tittiframe; the wider network was only partly exposed.
