Name

“Sila” is the everyday form used by the group and by Mascor Blancarba; “Scylla” is the formal spelling of the cosmological archive. He answers to both. He is distinct from Scya, the monster of Gallia Narbonensis defeated by the Regulators, and from Scilla, a companion in another part of the shared cosmos.

Description

The Caldero Gazette calls him “the invisible edge of the night”, silent and lethal, whose impossible acrobatics and precise attacks are vital to the stealthiest missions. He is a specialist in stealth and close combat, speaks little and only when needed, and fights without show: sidestepping a Skulk’s blow, leaping to trigger the slide trap by turning a torch against the clock, slipping a dagger into a gap in an enemy’s armor.

His defining trait is sobriety. He does not celebrate like Belicio, is not theatrical like Ayrton, nor expressive like Foggimer. In the archive this restraint protects him, since the intermediate negative pole feeds on expressive excess.

The Shadowfell

His ties to the Shadowfell let him pass through shadows as through doors. The Shadowfell is the intermediate negative pole of the cosmos, distinct from the Pit (Inferno) and from the positive plane, and it pulls constantly toward inherited darkness. On the Path of Drakthar, where Drakthar was defeated, he had to choose between that darkness and the group, and chose the group. The tie was not fully broken; he keeps both allegiances and manages the tension with monastic discipline.

History

  • Bazaar of Life. During the descent to the Malachite Fortress, the subgroup of Ayrton, Sila and Tony Malatesta found the Chamber of the Whispering Masks, a dark hall of carved masks filled with constant whispers of warnings and prayers. Ayrton tried to ignore them; Sila was more affected: “They’re… warning us of something.” The subgroup rested there under the masks. Sila heard a faint metallic screech from the corridor and advanced, expecting a trap; it was the rest of the group — Lukas and Foggimer among them — returning with the rescued children. What the masks warned of was never learned.
  • Path of Drakthar. The choice between darkness and the group.
  • Flood Season. He took part in the group’s mission.

The basement

He wanders the basement of the Bastard Cromas at suspicious hours. Neighbors’ rumors of a “hidden sect” or “secret parties” are misunderstandings: he practices night meditation with Shadowfell techniques that need deep darkness and absolute silence. Indie Magazine ran the headline “Sila’s shadow: the darkest monk in Caldero”, calling him an enigma even to his companions.

The “wet ash” anticipation

The cosmological archive keeps an anticipation that his arc may close in ceniza mojada (“wet ash”), “an irreversible blip”: he would die in one of the fractured half-worlds, with no body to recover and no gesta to bring him back. Whether it comes from later chroniclers or a parallel fold is not settled. The archive records the anticipation without asserting its fulfillment.

Open questions

  • Where his Shadowfell ties come from (possibly family lineage, a youthful initiation, or a cosmological pact).
  • Whether the “wet ash” anticipation will be fulfilled.
