History
First encounter in Caldero
On a night of thick fog in Caldero, in the mining lands north of the Phoenix’s Nest, Teo was among the first to cross paths with Lukas, Foggimer and Belicio as they chased young Jaromir, fleeing after seeing the execution of the gnome who kidnapped the orphans. Teo told Lukas: “I don’t know why I’m here, but I feel I must be. Something calls me.” He was sleepwalking, guided by visions he did not understand. That night he implicitly joined La Jabalina.
The statue in the Malachite Fortress
In the Malachite Fortress, during the descent to the bazaar of Life, Teo examined a monumental statue of Zenith Splintershield, the legendary dwarven defender who once commanded the fortress, whose eyes were set with gems. He slipped and touched the statue’s buttocks; animated chains attacked, and the group saved him.
Loss of the arm
On the Path of Drakthar, where the group faced darklings, Drakthar and the forces of the Shadowfell, Teo placed himself between a companion and the danger and lost his arm. The arm was not restored. He fights with shield and longsword (or a better-suited weapon) and still leads the group’s most dangerous charges.
The charity
Afterward Teo founded a charity, an “NGO for poor destitute children” in Mascor Blancarba’s words in the Caldero Gazette, operating from Caldero with support from the Temple of St. Cuthbert and partial funding from Captain Skellerang. It shelters orphans from the lower districts and trafficking rings near the temple, gives schooling and trade training, and works with Foggimer for medical and spiritual care. Teo accepts Caldero’s veneration uncomfortably.
The Cageewrights prophecy
His lost arm places him at the center of the prophecies concerning the Cageewrights, a dark faction or doctrine whose name suggests “cage-makers” in the imperial tongue. Rumor speaks of a sinister group working with marks, chosen ones and the number Thirteen: thirteen marks, thirteen chosen, thirteen planned sacrifices. Also bound to the prophecy are a senior cleric who lost both arms (identity not fully established) and the chosen child adopted by Lord Valanthru, possibly destined for the ritual of the marks. Teo bears one of the marks without knowing it; the archive records the lost arm as a sign of eligibility, chosen before Yathrebu.
Relationships
- Lucky: shares the main room with Teo at the Bastard Cromas; Gossip & Style asked whether they plot to become Caldero’s most powerful duo, noting the Sacred Order frowns on luxuries. Maimed paladin and Sacred Order knight with celestial smites, they form a complementary pair.
- Benetton: the paladin whose name Teo carries with the letters rearranged; his steed Caro Cuore bears the name of Benetton’s mare.
- Before charging Lord Valanthru, Teo quotes the aphorism of The Reflection of the Soul and the Poet Paladins: “the worst mistake of a warrior of faith is wanting to be a hero… and I am going to make that mistake”.
- His paladin path runs parallel to the Arian Line.
Conflicting accounts
- The arm was torn off by the claws of a Shadowfell creature; or cut by a cursed weapon; or consumed by an uncatalogued cosmological operation.
- The Caldero chronicle has Benetton sprout from his severed arm, a version not reconciled with Yathrebu.
Open questions
- The identity of the companion he saved is not given in detail.
- What drove his sleepwalking and the call he felt is unresolved.
