Eiffel Tower Clock is an old wall clock in Caldero whose main hand is a reproduction of the Eiffel Tower. A chronomantic object of unknown manufacture, it is carried by Tony Malatesta and gives him resonance rather than active power.

Description

The main hand is an intricate twelve-centimeter metal figure of the Eiffel Tower in fine filigree, turning over the dial as the hour hand. The dark wooden frame bears faint inscriptions that seem to tell stories; the gears spark faintly with residual magic.

Its manufacture is undated; it matches neither Caldero’s craft nor fully the magical industry of Star City, and seems to come from another cosmological fold.

History

  • It passed through Caldero workshops to Keygan Ghelve’s.
  • La Jabalina found it on its first mission, while rescuing the orphans of the Bazaar of Life.
  • The group chose Tony Malatesta as its bearer, not at random. When he is not carrying it, it rests in the workshop he shares with Vitalis at the Bastard Cromas.

Properties

Tony carries it on critical operations without activating it; he watches it. It shows residual magic: faint flashes, and slight vibrations near chronomantic nodes such as the Dark Chapel and the Chamber of the Whispering Masks.

It is expected to become fully chronomantic if:

  1. La Jabalina enters the Dark Chapel (the rite’s original locus, if it is a relic).
  2. Pablo the Chronomancer fully reappears in Caldero and the clock recognizes him.
  3. The line linking Caldero with Uchronic Paris becomes operative; the clock would anchor the crossing.

Origin hypotheses

Three non-exclusive hypotheses coexist:

  • Relic of the rite of Sacred Reconnection of the Dark Chapel: left behind by Pablo the Chronomancer’s emergency time jump and passed on through workshops; its residual magic fits Pablo’s doctrine.
  • Industrial-magical artifact of the Magical Industrial Revolution of Star City — a technical product, not a relic.
  • Geographic echo of the Eiffel Tower of Uchronic Paris, which operates with chronomantic doctrine in the uchronic fold: the clock would anchor the extended cosmos’s chronomantic line in Caldero. This is the recent reading of the Plata archive.

They may combine: an industrial-magical object given a ritual function by its uchronic link.

The Arian Line

The clock is one of the signs that Tony operates adjacent to the Arian Line of avatars: its bearer might be the vehicle of the anticipated sixth avatar, or a minor operator in the line. This is unconfirmed. Other signs are his shared workshop with Vitalis (son of the anagrammatic triple father), his complex divinations, his negotiations with negative-pole creatures (the Howler, Kazmojen) and his Miles Corp flying broom.
