History

Amitlai is the daughter of Cloeh and Maristo, paladin of the Eye of Helm. Born in the City of Brass, she moved with her mother to Waterdeep at nine; at twelve Cloeh took her to Babylon, “the Gate of Heaven”, where she took the alias Sarai and met Elisteo. She was with Abraham, Hagar and the Pharaoh.

Babylonian arc. In “The Gate of Heaven”, the first part of the Memoirs of Amitlai, Sarai is given in marriage to Nimrod/Terah, lives through Babylon’s last days under the siege of Abraham/Abram, and escapes to Egypt with Hircano, where she meets Pharaoh Mentuhotep. Her memoirs preserve the Houses of Alabaster and the mass infanticide of male children, along with Lot the astrologer, Tirlandi the midwife and the quolsani (“second womb”, a hidden pregnancy).

Egyptian arc. In the second part, Islaire, the Pharaoh sends her to infiltrate that new city. There she meets Frome, Bazim-Gorag “the bloodthirsty”, Latromis and Arcoms Cosmar, and writes letters to Mentuhotep on the political situation.

Theban queen. As queen of the Eighteenth Dynasty she has her daughters Meritatón and Sedi, her general Hircano/Horemheb and an antagonist Queen Mother, Tii (Tiye, Akhenaten’s historical mother). Utah is vizier and a father figure at court. The purge of the priests of Amun, a major episode of “Akhenaten’s revolution”, is Maristo’s last act before a dormancy of about 1,600 years, until the Sol Invictus of 270 A.D.A.

The Lord of the Cats. The Lord of the Cats bites her and begets Agatha. From that bond she receives the Ring of the Lord, which saves her several times, against the white dragon at Tovag Baragu and against the Lady of the Cats. Taking a hybrid woman-feline form, she stands as candidate for the Lady. When she takes the objects of power, an agent of Rintrah stabs her with the Artifact and kills her. She revives through the Ring; this conditional restitution stays active until the close of the DR axis.

She is also recorded as “doubly pregnant by the dragon Red” during her conflict with the Pharaoh.

The Calendar

Amitlai wrote the Calendar in the first person, as personal memory woven with cosmic events. The merged Calendar, compiled later, is kept in the Mediterraneum corpus as a primary source on the transitions of the shared cosmos. At her death Clarisa inherits the office of chronicler.

Conflicting accounts

On her father:

  • The filiation names Maristo of Waterdeep as her father; the Memoirs (Part One) call him her “adoptive father”.
  • She is also named the biological daughter of the Lord of the Cats, after the bite that begets Agatha.
  • Some records give Kosuth as a possible father.

The question is not settled.
