The Gear Artifact is a cosmogonic piece stolen by Graz’zt from the pantheon, a founding act parallel to the theft of Dual Magic by Pablo. “The Artifact” is a recurring reference with no single canonical definition.

Description
The gear is golden, complex and vaguely zodiacal; each tooth meshes with another, and at its center is an empty circle that seems to await no piece. It is shown held in custody, not in use: a crowned figure clasps it as a major relic, flanked by two attendants, one in polished gold and one in old silver, while a horned entity with a toothed crown watches from a cosmic architecture of purple and gold tiers.
Cosmogonic role
The cosmogony has two parallel Promethean thefts from the pantheon:
| Theft | Thief | Spoil |
|---|---|---|
| Dual Magic | Pablo, “like Prometheus” | Dual Magic, fire that burns gods |
| Gear | Graz’zt | Gear Artifact |
Both break the original cosmic hierarchy and set off the arcs of draining and reconstitution that dominate the shared cosmos. The Gear is also one of the symbols of Graz’zt’s power.
Open questions
Its identity is unsettled. It may be:
- a literal mechanical gear of the universe;
- an allegorical name for the Rod of Infinity or one of its parts;
- a distinct object of Graz’zt’s arc (Antiterra / Regulators);
- a synonym of the Artifact.
When the theft occurred in the cosmogony, and whether Graz’zt still holds it, are unknown.
