Estela is a nereid — a water nymph of the ancient elemental body — living in Uchronic Paris as the “Calendar Girl”, a successful model known from photographs and posters. She bears the Magic Shawl, which gives her command over water.

Description
She is the daughter of Baron House Man, an urban planner and society figure of Paris who covers her non-human lineage. The public sees her on tobacco posters, office almanacs and fashion covers. She is listed as “Calendar Girl 1902” in the Calendar of Amitlai and Clarisa. Her lithographic poster (Imprimerie Verneau & Cie, 31 Rue Lafayette) shows her with starfish in her curly hair and a green-silver organza shawl.
She never travels without her Elemental Bathtub: she must periodically submerge in spring water to refresh her elementality, which erodes in the dry air of carriages, hotels and salons. During the ritual she is without the shawl and without immediate defense.
History
- Paris underworld. She was the victim of an orgy at 114 Rue Prony, together with a friend of Cukulín; the Time Bandits rescued her, their first contact.
- The Orient Express. On the Orient Express the Circle of the Serpent tried to capture her with a taurine succubus and other agents, to force her to free a “serpentine relative” bound under the German border or in an allied fortress, in deep waters her shawl can reach. The Time Bandits defended her through the Pullman cars and roofs. After the escape on the border locomotive she summoned a water elemental that swept away the pursuing soldiers.
- The pact. She promised the group future support and contacts with greater aquatic entities and higher-ranking nymphs, sealed with the water of the last glass shared in the dining car, a nereid custom. This promise remains an open thread.
- Departure. After the German crossing she left to redirect her tour to Vienna, where she performed before the Emperor, and to reach her nymph allies. She disembarked near Nice, where the group boarded a yacht coordinated by Meteora.
- Time Capsule 1. A letter from Claude says she was “saved together with Velo under the sky of the Platform of Pisces”.
Powers and abilities
All depend on the shawl; when she puts it away, the faculty ceases.
- Control of water and steam, including train boilers and factory engines.
- Summoning lesser and greater water elementals.
- Communication with nymphs, lesser kraken and river spirits.
- As a nereid, she breathes underwater and travels rivers and seas with ease.
