Babylon is a place in the Invisible Cities chronicle that works in two ways at once: as an accusation against a city and as a primordial origin.
Accusation
Part of the populace announces by letter bomb that the city’s hour has come: a Babylon of sin that will burn like Sodom and Gomorrah. The martyr who arrives repeats it to its face. She claims to be “the Dorotea that should be”, the wrath of God. She accuses Suga of arriving as king and servant of the lords of Hell (“not only the mantle but the place: the tower”) and accuses the whole city, Dorotea, of being an impious Babylon.
Origin
During the battle of the sambódromo, the Enuma Elish is evoked. In this primordial Babylon the first fight is repeated: gilded Marduk against the first dragon.
