History

Sol-Luna belonged to the Ancients, the earliest adventuring group of the shared cosmos, alongside Wintons, Vera, Mentol and Zlbra.

  • Last Judgment, 1375 DR: according to the Calendar of Amitlai and Clarisa, Minaya (aged 27) and Soluna defeated Takhishis using the Lance and the Gem of Creation. The gods then turned time back to 1348 DR.
  • Death: Sol-Luna fell in the attack on Mechanus or near it. The theft of the Gear there is part of the central causal chain of the shared cosmos: without the Gear there is no Artifact, and without the Artifact there is no Contest.

Conflicting accounts

  • Later versions of the archive made Sol-Luna an androgynous artificer deity of Torregrises, dispenser of light in twenty-five suns, summoner of the Reunited and conjurer of the Tremendous Monkeys. The entry rejects this as a late palimpsest confusing the name with other solar-lunar figures.
  • In the novel El Elfo y la Sombra (ch. XI), Adimanto, atop the tower of Semblas during the Storm, is called by the lightning “by his true name” and becomes “the Ancient”: “Soy Soluna, el Antiguo” (“I am Soluna, the Ancient”). This voice must reach the foundations and explain that the Artifact, whose core is the Gear, “comes from the future”, stolen from Mechanus on the day of his death by the Prince of Shadows. The causal chain matches, but there Soluna is the ascension of Adimanto, a human (Black Sheep of the Southern Baronies), not a drow. The tension is unresolved.

Open questions

  • His arcane school, kinship with other drow, occupation before joining the Ancients and weight in the group’s decisions are not recorded.
