The Angara Rift is what ended fertile Angara and left the desert of Arxar, when a temple mirror swallowed Angara’s gods and the whole Solar Pantheon.

History

The opener is mystically remembered as Indicopleuste, elemental-darkness master, with the motto di veneno o muere (“say poison or die”, taken from a drink); also the Indian and Mr. Jones. An unlucky adventurer, he was drugged and robbed, nearly zombified by necromancers who took him for a spy, turned evil by a bloodstone when he killed a companion, and killed by a temple ward.

In an ancient temple of a dark queen’s hero, his amulet-key opened a mirror’s lock. Not reflecting, like the Mirror of Pleroma, it sucked in like a cosmic vacuum, swallowing Angara’s gods and the Solar Pantheon. The chromatic lady (Tiamat) then ruled the ruin, reaching other planes through people (the knight Coyote among them) and avatars, until Minaya and Sol-Luna defeated her in a final judgment.

In the Seekers’ gesta, Ardis Vala stands on Angaran territory; the rock elves are of that lineage. The dungeon has at its center a great rift, cleaving every level, with light-admitting cracks and something primordial nesting at the bottom, toward the Midnight Road. Mountain and temple repeat one figure.

Open questions

  • Is Arden Vul’s rift the Angara Rift seen from another layer, its echo, or its offspring?
  • Is the Solar Pantheon tied to the order worshiping a sun’s scar, or to the Eye of the Sun custodians guarding the library with light?
  • The fate of the swallowed is unknown; the judgment’s only date uses a calendar foreign to these worlds.
