Description

He has the head and bearing of a lion, a wolf’s body, and wings that form a closed disk, like a wheel that opens for flight; a long tail and strong crests. His metallic bronze color never oxidizes. His body gives off intense heat, which he must restrain so as not to burn his passengers. His claws are long daggers, and he could swallow a human in one bite. Fearsome and courteous, he offers passengers the choice of riding in his claw. He fears Stormy, the group’s black horse.

Role

Receiving the Deep Ones at his undersea court, the Cakravartin ordered: “Hazte Ti en forma de rueda, un cakra, y llévalos en símbolo de paz y armonía con la Atlántida” (“Make yourself into the shape of a wheel, a cakra, and carry them as a sign of peace and harmony with Atlantis”). Bronzo literally closes on himself and becomes the golden, luminous cakra, vehicle and emblem at once, and so carried the group from Atlantis to the surface, toward northern Mexico and the ancient mounds.

More secretly, he carries out the group’s insertion into the zodiacal platforms of the Guardians: he puts them where they must be, takes them through the gates the system recognizes, and escorts them to the threshold of the Game.

The companions are deeply fond of him. He confirmed by smell that the two children rescued from the temple of Sol Invictus, Melissa and Sebastián, were virgins, fit for sacred return.

History

The flight to Mexico

He flew a full day from Bermuda to the Gulf, diving to frighten farmhands, who saw “a dragon-shaped cloud”. He chose a valley to rest because “this place doesn’t smell of man”, lay down radiating heat, and talked: distant lightning that is “a call”; the electric worms also called blue dragons; a coming war between brothers who should be united; his lineage, split between those who followed Bahamut and those who took the path of Dahak, and the drought that took their luster.

When stone giants with moai heads attacked the camp, he hid in a crevice, since the great guardian creatures may not intervene. After the battle he reappeared, singed the survivors’ hair without killing them, looted the fallen giant and brought the spoils wrapped in hides: the giant had attacked first when he could have talked, and had been warned. In the morning he marked the exact point of the band of dissolution, a teleportation circle halfway along the route, as the place of return.

On the Chihuahua–Gulf of Mexico route he also fought two dragons, red and green, in the temple, striking its walls.

The final cycle

He returned when the group escaped the destruction of Antiterra. With Sheridron, the serpent of paradise reversed, of positive vision, he carried the survivors through the Band of the Dissolution of 1901.

Birth

The Les Libertateurs gesta (campaign-cycle) records his birth in 1784: he was molded by mystic alchemy from the tin and copper eggs, the pair belonging to the elf princess of Pretty Women, stolen by Blackbeard and recovered in Kraken’s Cove. Krisina, “in the body of Horatiel”, stayed in the sunken continent to raise him. A century later he is the adult dragon of the Cakravartin’s court.

A second thread links him to Casimiro: “Bronzo / Tecedilo, druida archiprimigenio del Dracomorfo” (“Bronzo / Tecedilo, arch-primordial druid of the Dracomorph”) converges in Casimiro the hierophant of the new world.

Conflicting accounts

  • Late in the gesta, Bronzo is said to have been turned from a bronze dragon into a chromatic white dragon by a guardian’s curse, tied to a “torque of cold” from the north.
  • A conversation with Eligos in Baton Rouge instead recalls a golden dragon who sacrificed himself in the temple to save his friends.
