The Dragon Eggs are a gold and a silver egg of “pure-hearted” dragons in Karina’s iron chest (1888), bright half of a cosmic duality whose dark half is a pair of red and green serpent seeds.

Description

When the albatross of Sati dropped the chest, it burst open and the eggs rolled intact across the sand. The Cakravartin explained the duality to the Deep Ones: a rival group, Marion’s, was taking the seeds to a sunken temple in Mexico to hatch them, and the scale already tipped toward the “dark dragons” which “are in the United States of America”. He charged the group with being “the arrow” that stops them hatching.

The plate shows a scale over the city: the whole eggs in one pan, the seeds already hatched in the other, which hangs lower.

The temple

When the temple’s smoking mirror broke, the newborn seed creatures, wrapped in chrysalises, matured at once and nearly devoured the group. They fell with the red rider of dusk and the help of a Gold Dragon that, corrupted by a temple curse, sacrificed itself for its friends. What remained was a resin parchment with an ouroboros and letters like ants, the safe-conduct Ludovico handed to the king on the stilt platform.

The two pairs of 1784

The chronicles of Les Libertateurs show two pairs of metal eggs in 1784:

  1. Tin and copper: an elven princess’s eggs, stolen by Blackbeard and recovered from the Kraken’s lair; mystical alchemy and Krisina’s raising in Atlantia produced Bronzo, the Cakravartin’s bronze dragon in 1888.
  2. Gold and silver: the king and queen of the metallic dragons, held by the congress of giants and its scale. Magda died trying to free them.
