The order
The Priscians claim descent from the Sortians, the magical democrats defeated in the Archontean Magical Schism. Their compound is hidden by a sustained mirage and served by Sortian eyes, a teleportation system. His staff: Jaracondus the Sprightly (second in command); Cenwulf the Unseen, eighth-degree illusionist leading the expedition team; Vingalok, a niravairi of the Order of Planar Explorers; Justinian, a sixth-degree war mage who appears unannounced; and other war mages and conversi in Quintus, cells of five.
The Arcanum Forge
A Sortian artifact for legendary equipment, only partly restored. It now makes Priscian chain mail and gladii and Sortian eyes; legendary Sortian items, Arcanum itself and gear of cosmic power remain beyond him.
Powers
Probably of the highest degree: Wish, time stop, disintegration, meteor swarm, a complete spellbook, extreme stealth.
Relationships
Possible ally Bayrum Cristalia; rival Kerbog Khan; historic enemies the Theosophists; possibly linked to Prisco Electe, the order’s namesake, and allied with Tsilliv / Kaliyani.
History
Before the Hiatus he was a hidden presence. After the Defeat of the Varumani and the entry into the Mist domain, Quintus may spread upward unpatrolled, Pope Alejandro Sixto may become an ideological rival, and he could help the Seekers if Valerius’s companion sword or the Argus paradigm needs arcane analysis.
In the present cycle he became the Seekers’ direct adversary. When they refused the Priscians the library of the Palace of the Prism, he teleported a Priscian party to the octagonal chamber. The mages’ scepters of absorption neutralized the Seekers’ spells; the group fell unconscious and lost every magic item, but kept gold, gems, rations, clothing and plain weapons, and was deliberately left alive.
This began the Priscian Monopoly of Legitimate Magic and a triangular field: the Pope (light), Caladan (dark) and the Priscians (arcane).
