Kerbog Khan is a single being, not a species: the living residue of two failed transitions, a reincarnation into an elf and a transmutation toward a troll, who emerged from a sarcophagus after more than ten years of confinement claiming to be the heir of Arbis Bala.

Description

His body has three layers, from bottom to top:

  • a being that was not an elf but “seemed to know it”;
  • a reincarnation into an elf;
  • a sought transmutation toward the special trolls of the upper lands, creatures already “very rare” there.

Neither transition was completed. His skin is “all sort of half green and red”, like a troll’s; he stands 1.90 m tall.

Emergence

His first recorded words when the sarcophagus opened were «Yo soy Kerbog Khan. Y me condenaron aquí.» (“I am Kerbog Khan. And they condemned me here.”). He presents himself with a name and a claim: «Pero soy el heredero de Arbis Bala» (“But I am the heir of Arbis Bala”).

After “10 years, more” without blood or flesh, the sarcophagus had dried him to “a raisin”, yet he was alive. His troll side shows at once: his wounds close on their own as he is watched.

Hunger

He himself describes his condition as an anomaly:

«Esto es extraño. Yo antes… Solo necesitaba… Magia y aceite. Ahora quiero… Tengo hambre.» (“This is strange. Before, I… only needed… magic and oil. Now I want… I’m hungry.“)

His former state was sustained by magic and oil; he did not eat. His present state demands flesh and, above all, blood: “Flesh, blood is vital.”

Conflicting accounts

  • In the same scene, a combatant called Khan must choose where to run from the creature (“where are you going, Khan?”). Whether he is this same entity, a namesake or a misheard name is unresolved.

Open questions

  • Who condemned him, for what crime and under what authority.
  • Who or what Arbis Bala is, and what is inherited (lands, title, power).
  • What the original being that “seemed to know” elves was.
  • Where the sarcophagus lies, and how it relates to the upper lands.
  • The limits of his regeneration (limbs, fire, whether he can be killed).
  • How much blood he needs, how often, and what happens without it; his voice and smell are not recorded.
