Description

Green cloche hat, long cigarette holder, black military boots under elegant clothes; thirty-two, pale, faintly bluish, unmarked skin. She never carries a lighter: “there is always someone who can do it.” She claimed covert work “with certain government entities here in Cairo”, would not name the country, and compared herself to Mata Hari; Paul Morand answered with Mata Hari’s head in a jar. Von Petersdorf told her: “In your eyes I see the past of the Nile.”

History

Teddy Bennet was her prisoner, then her chronicler; she spared his life. She seduced Victoria Stark to win her as an ally, and it left a mark on both.

Before the stele of Akhenaten, standing on Teddy’s back with the Dagger of Thoth under the red moon, the Bedouins hailed her as the returning daughter of war, fulfilling a prophecy she improvised. She ended crowned, with the pharaoh’s bow and the reins of the war chariot at her waist, choosing the monopoly of violence, and declared she would build a matriarchal nation with Victoria Stark as adviser. Her last reflection: only those “who only wanted to feel and give love” did not fall into doing anything for power.

Relationships

  • Irti — bodyguard and conscience; he warned that the people of those lands would fight for themselves, even against her.
  • Hans — the shadow of the epilogue wears her lipstick.
