Background
Petersdorf was an eccentric Egyptologist. He wrote books that challenged mainstream Egyptology, against Breasted of Chicago and Gardiner of Oxford, arguing that Egyptian religion was much older than Western academia accepted. The books received devastating reviews, and the warehouse where he stored them was burned in suspicious circumstances.
He left a will naming Camille Colbert as beneficiary of the Dagger of Thoth. The document disappeared before the auction, forcing a public sale.
Relationships
His death, the fire and the lost will are the three questions with which Teddy Bennet’s investigation begins. His relationship with Camille was more complex than an operation: something real “beat” between them. He is the first to connect her with Egypt. According to Camille, he told her: “En tus ojos veo el pasado del Nilo” (“In your eyes I see the past of the Nile”).
