Description

About fifty, tall and lean but with a younger man’s strength: angular face, trimmed gray beard, indigo robes, black keffiyeh, an ornamental curved dagger at his belt. He has the same ice-blue eyes as Irti.

History

He took the giant’s face in his hands, asked what blood he came from, and on hearing “Siwa” recognized him: “The eyes of Siwa. The blood of the guardians. We thought no one was left.” An old rider wept on touching his hand. He accepted Irti as kin but distrusted the foreigners, until Camille, as Nefertiti under the red moon, fulfilled an ancient prophecy: when the daughter of war returns with the dagger, the doors will open. His guardians do not cross the threshold: “We guard the door. What lies within is the gods’ affair.” In the end Irti returned the dagger to him, for his people to protect.
