Description

In 2087 the upper world belongs to the network, and fear of contact keeps humanity shut indoors. Kreider holds four hundred people in a subway terminal turned fortress, his hardhold: old railcars, a vegetable garden, an infirmary, a garage, a hall, an improvised guard and homemade weapons. He governs like a Roman patron — adoption, clientele, favors called in.

History

  • When the redoubt’s coordinates leaked, a missile killed a quarter of his people. He held out from his control room by the dam, and that same night adopted a newly arrived orphan.
  • He adopted Capecita, the daughter who betrayed him by dragging the gang into a hunting spectacle, and bore her death.
  • With the base lost, he moved his people onto an armored train of two locomotives, with luxury and third-class cars.
  • In the Healthy Forests, drugged and held by the cameras of an audience demanding blood, he obeyed the show’s order and commanded the humiliation and execution of his companion Shibuya. Shibuya survived, but the traitor’s mark stayed. Kreider regained leadership by force, shooting the agent who tried to put a kill switch in his hands.
  • He died once, gassed in the assault on the train, and was brought back by the healing hands of Shibuya.
  • In the final war he bought weapons from the exiled Russian soldiers, protected the advance of the gravity train, and fought with his decimated gang — at the end only Tommy and Tilda remained — against the cloned emissary of platform capitalism.
  • When the network fell, he left for the fallen floating city to build a new domain in Narco Paradise as its new godfather.
