Description
Air domes stand beside floating mountains: a land iceberg held aloft by turbines and incomprehensible technology, its underside covered in delivery containers. Drugs are shipped down from it to the sick world below; up here the same merchandise “immunizes”. At customs visitors are met with powder blowtorches and a choreographed slogan: when in doubt, bathe in coke. Its business is inventing the disease and selling the cure.
The city is governed by wings and lords. The wing the band knew belonged to Pete Ketterstein, a marbled statue-man behind a black basalt desk, flanked by the visionary Luvina, who coveted the baby. The guards in red are identical clones from one mold. Hospitality is a courteous prison: luxury suites, containment spheres, no way to connect.
History
When the stay turned into abduction and a macabre ceremony, Taito took the Mirage and flung it as a projectile into one of the turbines. The fortress began to descend amid alarms while Tuxedo’s air taxi pulled the band out. The city did not fully die: after the quarantine chronicle closed, Kreider retired there “through the front door” to found his new domain, godfather of the sky he once helped bring down.
