Barbarella, known as the aunt, is a succubus of the Abyss who lived as the aunt of Dandy in the Alley of the Gatehouse in Sogol and is now imprisoned inside the Black Obsidian Dagger.

Description
She sheltered, groomed and fed the boys of the Hive, looked thirty for as long as anyone remembered, and was “older” than she seemed. The neighborhood called her Barbeta. She imposed on Dandy his strictest taboo: never touch relatives. He introduced her as “a crazy aunt who says she was a succubus, or something more.”
History
She crossed the Arch of the Not Yet with the four on the night of the boots, kept watch through a night of terrors in the land of hielo ardiente (“burning ice”), and Uni, the Cyclops Monkey appeared on her shoulder.
Beneath the dead Temple of Ashtar she offered two daggers, one of black obsidian and one of white ice, for the dabus’ hammer and chisel. The boys refused. She then kissed Adriel and drew the life out of him; the hammer and chisel manifested as a one-winged angel, and she gave the cry Dandy’s bloodline fears most: that of capture, one step from the true name. Why she wanted the tools, she did not say.
She is now inside the black dagger. Freeing her would require breaking the glass; whoever knows her name can summon, bend and set her on guard. Uken later stated that “the aunt is captured in the obsidian.”
In Karlstorf, Dandy sought from her information toward the true name of Ajani. Adriel objected that the kiss and subjugation had been against his will. The companions tried to intervene in the dagger’s magic and argued over what to do if she appeared; her release was not confirmed.
Relationships
- Barbarella of Torregrises: an adventurer who learned in a hairdresser’s that she was the shadow of a great hero of light and fled the Sabasians. Both are classed as Seductor Universal; voices of the gesta say they are the same woman.
- Ariadna: a distant relative, it is said.
- The Obsidian Marilith: the other woman of the family imprisoned in black glass; her war name is General Ajani.
Open questions
- The degree and branch of her kinship with Ariadna are unknown.
