The guardian of the egg

The Seekers knew her as the guardian of the egg: she danced with katana, stiletto and flail over the fountain of ichor, standing between Psalor Ki and anyone who came for the egg and its counter beneath the ichor. They defeated her, leaving the sanctuary broken and the laboratory in ruins. When she fell, the egg and the counter vanished and a voice was heard; neither its words nor its owner were recorded.

Tanar’ri destroyed outside the Abyss return to their plane, poorer and slower. She is held to be gathering what she lost there, and expected to want to return, with a vengeance against the cosmos in general.

The Coliseum of Nightmares

Earlier she fought, dominated, for the Great Khan of Nightmares, the two-headed double vrock, in the coliseum where nightmares are fought like beasts. Her obsidian sheathing was put on her; its black glass plates were forged, or appeared, in the Basalt Pits, the volcanic belly of the land of hielo ardiente (“burning ice”), where the blade that killed Thel, the Lady of Pain, also came from.

She was bound to Psalor Ki’s service by summoning with her true name; her whole lineage has suffered from discovered names. The obsidian gates, where Psalor Ki first showed himself, share her material.

Open questions

  • Whether the voice heard at her fall was hers is suspected, not established.
  • How she passed from the Khan’s arena to Psalor Ki’s sanctuary is not fully known.
