Teófilo the Bactrian is a Bactrian sorcerer-philosopher of Uchronic Paris, hidden manipulator of the Valley of Death and the yellow faction. He is also Olaus Wormius, the Chronal Sorcerer. Also Teododetes, Teófides (Greek), “the water” (the company’s nickname).

History

  • A “family sorcerer”, his rituals strengthened or summoned the King in Yellow, spread “liquid marble” (turning beings to living stone) and animated mindscapes for alien forces.
  • Lured to a trap in Byzantium by yellow candles, the signal of a successful summoning, he declared: “I am the variable man, but I see that you are a constant in my life.” He exists as a variable across time, while the companions are constants. He urged “let us avoid all wars” and smiled for the first time. The companions distrusted him but needed him to prepare the chronal flare.
  • Giving four books to the Venerables weakened him; he failed to save Zoé.
  • He wrote the Greek Al Azif (Necronomicon) in Byzantium; The Fruit of Knowledge shows him young, in a laboratory.
  • Corrupted, he reappeared in the Tranquil Tower of the Valley of the Yellow Serpent worm-bodied, in a yellow cloak, as a manifestation of the King in Yellow. He cast spells, summoned creatures and shielded himself in the tower. He had kept Philippe in lethargy as bait and made a pact with Death against the Time Bandits. He was burned to destruction.

Open questions
