Old Laus is a nervous intermediary between the companions and the court of Theodora. He receives the group at the Port of Happy Return and warns them: “a black queen, a dark queen, be careful, she is very angry, and she has just told me to bring you here from the future.”
He places blessings on the group that shield the spirit against glib talk, disguise and mirage. He has no answers and awaits the companions’ explanations. He knows of Zoé’s death and of Theodora’s fury.
Identity
He may be an incarnation of the old or future Olaus, manifesting as a harmless old man. The name “Laus” evokes “Olaus”, a possibly deliberate connection. See Teófilo the Bactrian / Olaus.
Appearances
