Pact of Death is a cosmological pact revealed by the corrupted Olaus and the psychopomp dragon. If the Time Bandits alter history and prevent the First World War (1914), they annul millions of souls “promised” to the powers of death. Death will not let go of souls that already “belong” to it, and the companions count as “in rebellion” if they try to change the flow.
Central dilemma
The group wants to save millions of future lives, but doing so means rebelling against Death’s cosmic order. The group argues that daemons and demons profit from those souls, which makes the psychopomp doubt.
Resolution
The psychopomp leaves the matter “under review” and deposits an Amber Butterfly, suggesting a possible future miracle. The matter stays open as a pending cosmic threat.
Connections
It connects with the chronal Curse of the Uchronic Guardians, forced to carry out the Sarajevo assassination. Related: Uchronic Guards, Simultaneous Circle.
