Description

At her masked diplomatic reception she alone goes unmasked, jeweled, pricking her shoulder with a quill. She wishes to be an actress like Empress Theodora. Her oasis court holds animal masks and young slaves rescued from “strange mining” in the depths (linked to the Valley of Death). Aby detected magic in her quill, the mask and her garments, and an active polymorph on one item.

History

  • At her reception for the Green, Blue, White and Red emissaries she struck the Green one with “a spectral slash”; the emissaries proved to be demonic impostors.
  • Questioned through Tetraxis: the attack was her pantomime “yes and no”; the impostors would kill the consort; a close ally existed — Mother Grima.
  • Her realm was later threatened by giants and orcs. Orcs and a Giant with a stolen palanquin-throne surrounded her.
  • Accepted Philippe’s political marriage under duress, sealed by an irremovable ring.
  • At the King in Yellow’s name she stabbed herself, but her body would not let her die. Unstable, she was taken to Byzantium as part of the trap for Teófilo the Bactrian.

Open questions

  • Whether she provoked the ambush to force the group’s help.
