The Fungal Mindscape is a mental plane engendered by alien, fungal spores, able to trap whole consciousnesses inside false realities.

In the Byzantine arc
Much of what the group believed it lived after passing the Mountains of Madness happened inside one of these landscapes, induced by a tentacled fungal creature. This includes the devastation of the Oasis, the alliance with the Yellow Queen and the fight against the bull-serpent creature.
The illusion broke through a minimal gesture. Aby touched the spectral figure of the Yellow Queen beside the portal; the figure vanished and only the true portal remained. On crossing it, the travelers found they had never left the Mountains of Madness.
The creature
The creature that held them has no tentacles in reality. The tentacles manifest only inside the mindscape, tearing the fabricated reality like papier-mâché. It lives in the Mountains of Madness.
Open questions
- Whether the spores are still active is unknown; every later record of the arc carries that suspicion.
