Kerbok Khan is a heretic of the Priscianos and a technomage, combining technology and magic, who passed from house to house and was hunted by each in turn. Chroniclers call him “the intelligence behind this destruction”; his whereabouts are now unknown — «Se ha perdido el rastro» (“the trail has been lost”).

History

  • The Priscianos, his institution of origin, declared him a heretic and persecuted him.
  • When his “metal devices failed”, he sought asylum among the trolls. With them he coordinated the launch of the bomb they had against a village — “the trolls’ conspiracy”: they had the bomb, he knew how to launch it. He then fled from them too.
  • He joined the Cult of the Dragon and “was persecuted even by those of the dragon cult”. At some point he is placed as a servant of the dragons.

His cursed immortality lets him survive every stage.

Deeds

He does not fight in front; he builds and detonates — “Carlos Khan, operator behind”. Two major destructions are attributed to him:

  • the trolls’ bomb on a village;
  • the detonation of the egg of Ritornello — “whoever detonated it is supposed to have been Carlos Khan”; the attribution is not settled.

He also tried “to reincarnate an elf”, among “some strange things”.

Immortality

His magic is one of pact and corruption. His immortality is a punishment he chose for someone else: “I decided to curse myself with the bad immortality so that he may live”. That he is a son, unnamed, whose fate is unknown.

In a very unclear dialogue he is told “you are the creator of vampires”. If true, he would be the primordial father of the vampires.

The medicine module

“The medicine module is held by Kerbo Khan, or at least that is what they let it be understood.” The custody is second-hand and unconfirmed.

Conflicting accounts

  • Body. One account sees him first as “the robot that we now understand is the heretic of the prisoners themselves”. Another calls him “the techno-mage of the mechanical antivélulas” (most likely “antennae”), tying him to a metal, emitting device. Another makes him a troll: “Carbocán was the one who put the egg bomb in this place. The troll.” Another has him transformed: “he became a troll elf with troll blood”. The transformation could reconcile Priscian and troll, but no one says so.
  • Trolls. One account makes him responsible for the trolls’ bomb and suggests he leads them; another says he fled from them. The order of the two is missing.

Open questions

  • How and when he created vampires, if he did, and whether he is still bound to them.
  • What the medicine module does, which ship it comes from, and whether he still holds it.
  • Whether any name variant (Kerbo, Kerbos, Carlos Khan, Kevorkán, Carbocán, Kerbusscan) names someone else.
  • His face, size, voice and dress; whether the “robot” is his body, a disguise or a chroniclers’ confusion.
  • What the curse consists of, who grants it and what it costs him.
  • One dossier makes Masracht a Khan and father of Caladan, but the one who says “I am the Khan of the first elves” is named Mastwag. Whether they are the same, and whether that one is Kerbok Khan, is not established.
