History
The Boreals
He began in the Boreals, the adventuring generation before the Deep Ones, whose world was Diamond Lake / Chicago. A black dragon decimated the group. El Fabuloso was the only survivor — or barely survived, or was revived later; the archive does not settle which. In a version of Antiterra “where trains and dragons appear”, that dragon became president of Ohio and then president of the United States.
The bank
On the Boreals’ lineage he founded the Boreal Bank, a cross-gesta financial institution. Its business lines:
- microcredits and future credits in Africa, with Rosita;
- death insurance and labor percentages with the Mercane, blue giants and planar merchants;
- sickness insurance during the plague of Sigil.
The bank’s mark is chronocapitalism: time traded as capital, with terms, futures and planar vaults as assets. Its working capital is magic, gems and betrayals.
The Eiffel Tower Tournament
In the final cycle of Antiterra he was a key member of the Regulators, in the advance from Carcassonne to Paris and in the tournament (1890 A.D.A.). He reached the top inside Boro, manipulating gravity and firing rays, and drank from the Cup of a Hundred Wishes. Instead of founding Sigil, as expected, he wished: “That the Gem of Creation go to vault U-5-7-1 of Union”, the Mercane city.
Publicly this was betrayal of the Regulators; privately it was a deal between the bank and its Mercane partners. The Regulators lost the Gem, Sigil was not fully founded, and Paris remained incomplete.
Later records
- In the akashic records the betrayal is recorded indelibly, as the operation by which the Gem came into the Mercane’s custody “in an orderly and legal manner”; the trail ends in Sigil.
- A cycle later, the group raids the same vault U-571 in Fiji.
- The DreyFab family records that “El Fabuloso gave a bad name, prototype Errant”.
- He is referred to as a banker in Events of Antiterra.
Relationships
Conflicting accounts
- The archive draws a line of continuity from El Fabuloso to La Plume, the perfumed swordsman of Les Libertateurs, and from him to La Luz, reborn in Mexico: one thread that loses its soul at poker and recovers it, with vault U-571 and the Gem as its debt. Whether this is full identity or links of one line is not settled.
Open questions
- Whether he survived the dragon, barely survived, or was revived.
