Boreal Bank (also the Bank of the Boreals, or simply “the Boreal”) is the financial institution founded by the gnome El Fabuloso after he was left the sole survivor of the adventuring group the Boreals. It trades in time as capital, insurance on death, and percentages on planar deals.

Origin
The Boreals were the adventuring generation before the Deep Ones, active in the world of Diamond Lake / Chicago. The group was decimated by a black dragon. El Fabuloso was the only survivor — or barely survived, or was revived. In one version of Antiterra, “where trains and dragons appear”, that dragon became president of Ohio and later President of the United States. The bank keeps the lost group’s name.
Headquarters
After the Eiffel Tower Tournament operation, the bank’s main seat was set in Carcassonne, the Pyrenean fortress the Regulators had freed from devils. Its letters are signed EFBB-CSS — “El Fabuloso Banco Boreal - sede Carcasona”.
Business
- Microcredits and futures credits in Africa, run with Rosita as partner or key client.
- Chronocapitalism: lending terms, delays and futures, not only money. Its forms include futures credits, planar vaults that cross eras (such as vault U-5-7-1 in Union) and insurance on events that have not yet happened.
- Death insurance and work percentages with the Mercane, the blue giant planar merchants and long-time partners. The bank insures the deaths of planar operators and takes a cut of the jobs the Mercane close.
- The plague of Sigil: during the plague in the City of Doors, the bank sold sickness insurance and took percentages on rescues.
Its working capital is magic (planar vaults, binding contracts across time, insurance across eras), gems (hard currency, such as the Gem of Creation) and betrayals: El Fabuloso always collects from the side that pays best.
The Gem operation
When El Fabuloso won the Eiffel Tower Tournament, his wish redirected the Gem of Creation to vault U-5-7-1 in Union, city of the Mercane. This was a banking operation: he delivered the Gem to his partners, and the Regulators were betrayed.
The renovation letter
A formal letter signed EFBB-CSS informed the Regulators that Union was closed for renovations by Arian with the Gem of Creation, but that orders backed by their check would be accepted, and other objects bought at 75 %. A 4 % check tax brought the redemption value to 71 %. The letter also reported a time lag (“12 days that for you were only 12 hours”) and the news of the interval: the dragon of Ohio had become President of the United States, the Indians had obtained promised lands, and a war among dragons was approaching that the metallic dragons wanted to prevent. It closes “Fabulosamente suyo” (“Fabulously yours”).
