The event

A comet-like explosion appeared in the distant sky; the Terrapistas identified it as Terra immolating itself. Without its orbital counterpart, Antiterra was dragged toward the Band, the limit beyond which existence dissolves. Its demons were the first to know.

Preceding events

  • The Regulators undertook the final cleansing of the infernal presence on Antiterra.
  • The Stone of the Apocalypse led them to a pact at Buckingham Palace; Gideon took responsibility for its delivery.
  • On Mexico’s west coast, a small farm proved divine: Anubis, Sobek and Hecate were active there.
  • When the Regulators tried to conjure the Castle of the Prism, Auro appeared and a great battle broke out, during which the Stone was stolen. The explosion followed shortly.

Aftermath

A refuge world was needed for Antiterra’s inhabitants, or their souls. Only Lucifer would receive the born-possessed of a world made by Graz’zt, for one price: the destruction of Barbatos. It was paid. Benetton’s letters, written twelve years earlier, had promised the damned cold steel (see Poet Paladins).

The Carnival of Venice gathered all the platform Guardians for the first time before the impact. The ensuing exodus is the Rapture, with the Ships of Chaos as its vehicles. The later synthesis of the twin worlds, which some hold cannot exist apart, is Sinterra.

Other chronicles

  • In Uchronic Paris, the same September is lived on the Black Sea as “the times of the end of the world”, as the companions sail for the lighthouse island.
  • In the Florence of 1300, on the other axis of the cosmos, the same date is the Day of Dishonor, soon after the poet’s exile.
  • See also the multiple apocalypse, where all the apocalypses arrive together.

Conflicting accounts

  • The record of Antiterra’s end gives the beheading of Barbatos, in Avernus, to Ariel.
  • The entry’s link list names Benetton as the one who paid the price.
