Origin
Blanqui was born from excessive consumption of the concentrated drug that falls to Earth in meteorites broken from remote worlds, the same poisoning, transforming substance that feeds the city’s mutagenic drug-bombs. Within it echo the emotions of the brother of Rave (also recorded as Rey).
The brother, Grant, died in a bank robbery in Buenos Aires, shot down by the superhero Armagedón. Rave sustained him for a time as a drug-fed illusion, then sought his brother’s emotions in the worm and reached them on the Moon with the help of operatives of Mars. In the end both brothers were fused with the ambrosia in the worm, which became a single organism of multiple consciousness.
The threat
The worm bores galleries through the lunar rock. If it keeps gnawing, the structure of the satellite could collapse, raining fragments on the Earth of New York and endangering its orbit and all life on the surface.
The worm in time
At the arc’s end Blanqui became a weapon with a countdown. Raised by Hecate on the far side of the Moon and fed only on ambrosia, it was sent with the “black stone” of the substance to the Moon of the past, around 1890, to grow for nearly three centuries and be ready to burst when the timeline reaches 2035.
Name and parallel
The name evokes Louis-Auguste Blanqui, the Commune revolutionary who, imprisoned in the Fort du Taureau, wrote L’Éternité par les astres, a cosmology of eternal return.
In Uchronic Paris, Blanqui Celeste, the uchronic Auguste Blanqui held in the Prison of the Bull during the Commune, also becomes a cosmic worm that lives in the Moon and repeats its own name; his release unleashes the Chronocide. Two separate campaigns reached the same figure.
