History
They were met together at the Bridal Shop uptown, in Harlem, when Rave intercepted the group to ask a favor. When the drug began to wear off, the brother vanished. Grant had been dead for some time: the two had taken drugs and carried out a robbery that went wrong, and in the bank Armagedón killed him with a kick to the face, in Buenos Aires. Rave fell into a kind of depression; someone offered her the chance to go after the drug, which kept her for a couple of weeks.
The worm is an organism whose cells incorporate other consciousnesses, as the mitochondrion is incorporated into the cell; it can hold more than one at once. Rave did not remember Grant; she felt him — a resonance, his emotions still beating inside, carried by the stellar drug. With the help of Mars Inc.’s operatives she went up to the Moon and forced her way to the Lunar Module. The module plunged into a crater on the far side, where she merged with the drug.
The fusion
In the vision that remained, everything compresses and bursts in slow motion, pieces of wall fly, and something buries itself: a worm, a black thing in which Grant and Rave appear accumulated, fused, one. It had happened once before, when scientists caught them in something like a temple, and happened again here, definitively. The creature went inside the Moon. The last thing heard was a name: Blanqui… Blanqui. The worm now threatens to split the satellite and fall on the world. The vision also left the impression that this did not happen in a single time: it is, literally, a wormhole.
The Black Stone of Ambrosia, fuel that had awaited the worm in the same crater since 1890, is linked to this event.
Conflicting accounts
- The canon states that the dead sibling is Grant, Rave’s brother, whose emotions resonate in the worm; at least twice the archive says sister instead of brother, either a slip or a variant.
- The arc of Rant and Rael is the same arc: a brother killed by Armagedón’s kick, a bank, Buenos Aires, a sister sustaining him and going to the Moon to say goodbye, a final merging in the crater’s energy cluster. Only the names differ.
Open questions
- Whether Rave and Rael are two names for one seeker, or two seekers whose mourning rhymed until confused.
