Thomas Cole is the “Variable Man” (Hombre Variable) of Uchronic Paris. He used to fix things at people’s homes in Nebraska.
History
- He wanders uchronically in New York (22nd century), during the war between Terra and Proxima Centauri. His ability to fix things altered FTL (faster-than-light travel). Centaurs of Alpha Centauri pursue him.
- He acts as a sailor-spy (Alberto) accompanying Meteora on a yacht, survives the shipwreck in the Sea of Marmara and fires the sucronic flare (U-Bengala) that causes a time jump to Constantinople in 1055. He is to use it in an emergency.
- With the Time Bandits he defends the group and prepares a sucronic ritual. In Alexandria, under Mamluk rule, he makes adjustments to the U-Reloj and searches for arcane components; he then goes with the Time Bandits to the Oasis of Siwa.
- He is killed by the Horseman of War, who cuts him into pieces and arranges them artistically in a cave.
