The 5-Year Loop (Time Trap) is a five-year loop in the same city, created when the Time Bandits travel from Uchronic Constantinople in 1055 to Constantinople in 1050. It is not a trap imposed on them but one they chose: the group goes back in time to gain operating time.

Paradoxes
- Olaus Wormius of 1050 receives a message from his own future self.
- The companions can prevent the ecclesiastical censorship that, in the original line, motivated their journey.
- The Latin prohibition of the Necronomicon occurs in 1050, exactly when the companions arrive.
- Two versions of the timeline briefly coexist.
The ritual
The journey is carried out by a combined ritual: a chronal flare (Sucronic Flare), parchments, spells of Swan, formulas of Thomas Cole and astronomical triangulation with Alpha Centauri. The faster-than-light trajectory bounces off a binary system, which allows the jump of four to five years into the past.
