The Temple and Place of the Just is the palace-fortress of the first level of Hell, in Dante’s line: the place of the virtuous pagans, the unbaptized just, before the descent into the circles of punishment. It is both an honorable dwelling and the antechamber of Hell.

Description
A golden-domed cathedral with stone spires and lit windows stands on a ledge above the red; robed figures talk on a terrace above a slope toward a light best not looked at.
History
The earlier crossing
Before the Inferno gesta, it appeared in an earlier line crossing Mediterráneum with a return to Hell. Old companions such as Samsara and Equis appeared, and the story of Marcos the Mage and his ship unfolded: a spider-like being out of Hell that carries off the blue book of the Library of Hell. The story ended at the Temple; the ship then left through the Pillars of Hercules into the Mediterranean.
The assault and the bombs
In the Inferno gesta, the group is assaulted in the Temple’s cathedral while another group enters from below, from a witches’ plane — the Three Witches (Macbeth) — convinced it is carrying bombs once again. It echoes the bomb episode of the Catacombs of Paris, the only one repeated on two planes. Ärsvan defuses the trap; Ariadna relapses, scythe in hand; Sven nearly falls for the witches’ chant.
Role
The Temple holds the Sancta Sanctorum, a chamber identified with the Tabernacle and the Ark of the Covenant. There everyone fights over Vala Cristalis in the Inferno version of the Paladin in Hell arc. A multi-world junction, it joins Mediterráneum, Paladin in Hell, Inferno and the Masters × World of Kryle crossovers.
