Samsara is a priestess of Ishtar from Babylon who was made pregnant by a white dragon during a failed expedition to an inverted mountain in Lower Egypt. She carries the dragon’s dark seed and hears its whispers from inside her body.
Description
A woman of the temple and of the cult of Inanna-Ishtar, not a wandering mage or adventurer. Her canonical origin is Babylon.
History
The inverted mountain
Samsara joined a group sent by Arrak of the Kassites, Great Lord of Isin, to explore a mountain that appeared upside down over the Nile delta in Lower Egypt. The group was:
- Shagrath and Sigla, scouts;
- Archiemonde, warrior;
- Equis, Egyptian spy;
- Berian, a cowardly bard;
- Tsuki, a feminist Egyptian spy;
- Samsara, priestess.
In the mountain they found a giant in a cabin, Homo erectus inhabitants, an ice mage, a white dragon, and the magic cloak of the former lover of Neorex, one of the historical facets of Graz’zt. The mission failed. There the white dragon impregnated Samsara with “the seed of a dark creature.”
Captivity
After the expedition, Graz’zt’s forces captured her, and Zamora, the demon’s agent, interrogated her while she floated disintegrated in an incubator of golden water. She recounted the whole expedition, including a mountain that moved and floated; the dragon’s voice slipped into her account.
Later appearance
Samsara reappears, years later, in a later line crossing Mediterraneum with a possible return to hell, as a former inhabitant of that world. That line culminates at the Temple and Place of the Just; Arcoms Cosmar is linked to it (a spider ship, the theft of the Blue Book).
Works
- Los Sinsabores de Samsara (“The Sorrows of Samsara”), a poem in the voice of the priestess who carries a dragon in her womb and remembers the golden water.
