Metropolis is the Guardian of the Tempo of the New York where 9/11 was prevented: a genderless urban druid who for about four hundred years has watched over the time singularity left by the averted attack. Metropolis died in the Dimensional Fold in Queens and was succeeded by the Emerald Lady.

Description
Metropolis is a presence rather than a person, with no known gender. The prevention of the attack left a point of tension in history that could unravel, twist or burst toward futures that must not be; Metropolis keeps guard over it. Its druidism is that of avenues, tunnels, foundations and the currents crossing the city, which it treats as a living organism. It fears most those who touch time without measuring the consequences.
The cheese man
Its civil identity is the cheese man, owner of a seven-story mozzarella tower in Queens. Its power works through that substance:
- it extends its consciousness and control over everyone who eats its mozzarella;
- it possesses and governs automatons;
- it reads the Akashic Library, the record of all that was and will be.
Death
In the Dimensional Fold in Queens, Metropolis had a fatal encounter with Ifrit and his companions, who were trying to rescue from death a victim of the mutagenic drug-bombs plaguing the city, possibly sponsored by the Mars corporation. For the guardian this was perhaps a pull on the thread of time. In the fight Metropolis was split by a stray bullet and pinned by a shadow dagger in the time tunnel, and died. The city raised in its place the green-robed Emerald Lady, who inherits the mantle of the tempo.
