Cthulhu (Tulú, as his faithful pronounce it) is the colossal power that lies dreaming at the bottom of the sea, awaiting his coming. He does not act; he waits.

Cult
Around 1966, in the South Atlantic islands, the Esoteric Order of Dagon, the batrachian brotherhood calling itself the Deep Ones, worships Cthulhu and prepares his coming from the abyss. The fish-men under the islands keep his name in phrases such as “the eye”, “opening the eye”, “the silver dawn” and the “north” the cult faces. They await a god who rises from the depths, not one who descends from the sky. Those with Deep One blood attune to his dreaming voice in the dream sphere.
Relationships
Cthulhu is distinct from Nyarlathotep, the door and the key who hands out masks and messages. The chronicle records that “great Cthulhu is his cousin”: kin in the abyssal pantheon, but separate entities, one working through the door, the other through the water.
