Role

Malnati funds the group, makes the lodge its base on the continent and acts as its father figure, explaining and guiding.

Teachings

He explains masonry as football: the lodges are the teams, the grand master is the AFA, and each brotherhood plays the others in a league no one sees from the stands. Over it he sets the motto liberty, equality, fraternity.

His central doctrine is that of the two kinds of lodge:

  • white lodges, on the path of light; here he cites Tibet, Blavatsky and The Secret Doctrine;
  • black lodges, which vampirize men’s energy and store it in staffs, like a charge in an accumulator.

He hands out books: The Secret Doctrine, and a quotation from Roberto Arlt. Much of what the group knows of masonry and the war between lodges comes from him.

The war of lodges

Malnati discovered that Ricardo Moretti belongs to the Anael Lodge, an anticommunist right-wing brotherhood with union ties and foreign sponsors. The Sons of Labor and the Anael are declared enemies: workers’ left against esoteric right. On the surface of 1966 this looks like the union war between Vandor and the “entrepreneurs” of the Peronist right; in the shadows it is a war of lodges.
