Medawin / Medawaywin is the vital force of the Earth, the resonance of the living land, in the Corona del Norte. In the cycle it is literally a living being, sick and dying. It is portrayed as an old man with an endless beard on a wooden throne, one-eyed, with two ravens on the backrest.

The sickness is colonization: each act of European violence creates “zones of destructive energy” that kill natural magic. Medawin operates on a cosmological scale: the Moon has a consciousness and a tree of its own, and the pact of three moons establishes a cosmic calendar.

The main group’s decision to heal Medawin, raised on the day of Farruco’s well, is the projected ethical conclusion of the cycle (not played out).

Open questions

  • Whether the sick Medawin of the 17th century precedes the Chronocide of the 20th century (Uchronic Paris), which would mean temporal destruction continuous across 300 years of Antiterra, is unconfirmed.
