Mother Grima (also Grima-Luna, Mother Luna Grima) is a gigantic woman or creature met on night watch near the Valley of Death in Uchronic Paris. She is a deserter or fugitive from the hosts of conjurers who desecrate the Valley.

Spanish entry Madre Luna Grima

Description

Larger than a human; barefoot, dirty, mistreated; unstable in personality (“¿Por qué no me traje a alguien para sacrificar? — Ah no, no hay que matar más a nadie”: “Why didn’t I bring someone to sacrifice? — Oh no, no one else must be killed”). She uses clerical and shamanic abilities and can fly or rise into the air.

Information given

  • Beneath the Valley’s pyramid lie tombs and ruins with passages (an underground labyrinth), reachable from below by a dry river.
  • The conjurers are building an “army of stone and souls” with the liquid that turns beings to stone.
  • Allies underground should be told: “we come on behalf of Mother Luna Grima”.
  • She warns of the “kingdom of the city that awakens” below and offers a flight spell (“Overland Flight”) so the party can reach the objective.

Negotiation

The party, with Swan, offered freedom and a reward for information. She accepted on condition that she not be “used” as her masters used her. They told her Chronomon had said they would find an ally on the road. They agreed to meet again on the same hill in two days; she vanishes promising later support.

Open questions

  • Her nature: giant, troll or transformed humanoid.
  • “Grima” may be a proper name or an allusion (Tolkien’s Grima, or grima as mask or horror).
  • Her clerical powers and “mother moon” may point to a lunar cult.
