Antiterra
God is “the creator angel” of the material universe; “there is only one who shakes hell”. The worst sin is “putting yourself in the place of God”.
Nature
No body is described. God is known through manifestations and objects, “either answering himself or through a messenger”; direct manifestation is exceptional. The recorded messenger is an angel appearing as a figure of light after a day’s climb up a mountain near the Apennines. The sadaríes of God also bring sayings. In myth, God slipped “like a serpent among the Romans”, dominated them and “finished off the other gods”, before the 1300 cycle.
Objects
- The Chalice of God, held by Alberich: “the chalice is dirty, the chalice is with me.”
- The Ark of God, a chest keeping God’s words. It disintegrates the wicked; no one can touch it. It travels in the mission’s baggage.
- The extract of Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, for consulting God: kneel, hold it with both hands, pray. The recorded consultation answered that prudence matters most and religious rites must be respected.
- Distinct from these, the Head of the God: the head of a pagan god fallen from the sky, now an explorable structure marking the entrance to the labyrinth.
Prayer and dealings
The formula is “God, guide us in this dark moment”, prayed before crossing time. God also acts unasked: he added “the security of God” to a company plan he “cared a lot about”. “God’s work is much bigger than one supposes. And it pays better”, but “God asks very strong sacrifices”, above all of those seeking last-minute redemption. His grace makes its bearer immune to others’ misery and to fire. His justice is rigorous, yet a beautiful young woman in heaven takes pity and disarms it.
Institutions
- The Peace of God, invited by King Baldwin, forbids attacks between Christians and Muslims.
- The Judgment of God is a legal duel over morality and guilt; the Templars proposed one.
The patriarch answers to the king of Jerusalorium, who “has to answer to God as king”: “to man what is man’s, to Christ what is Christ’s”. Whether God and Christ are one is debated; “many think they are different”. Greek has its own term for “the friends of God”.
Other gods
The God of death in hell, who could destroy Zeus for good; the god of time, “a titan sacrificed to that end”, who knows all the questions; an ancient dark god in the realm of dreams who “will break everything”, which is why that realm is forbidden; the Executioner God; a cursed God whose power can be accepted; and the finished pagan gods.
The end
The company plans to use the combined power of all the relics “so that God hears us and the book unites us”. When time ends, “all will return under the shadow of the lack of God”.
Open questions
- What the sadaríes are, and who the young woman in heaven is.
- Whether the other gods are names of the one, rivals or remnants of an older order.
- Whether the Chalice is the Stone some call the Holy Grail, and why it is dirty.
- The names of the dark god of dreams and of the god of the Head.
- What “that it is the earth and it is God” means.
- Where the Ark rests; the reach of the Peace of God; how the Judgment is decided.
Vala
The gods reside in the sky. A less certain report from the Descent says that the gods broke the door and the key; which door and key is not recorded.
