The title
A heqeti “Tongue” is a spokesman and diplomat, the only kind able to deal with outsiders without psychic or ritual harm; the Great Tongue is the cult’s supreme rank. Under him serve Pikaressa the Second Tongue, Qassapik the Weaver, and Caudatssa the Tongue in the Heqeti Upper Temple of the Thegn’s Court.
Agenda
For generations he and his predecessors have failed to summon Kauket, their demon prince, for lack of the pale green spiral horn the ritual in the Summoning Chamber requires. The rudishva took it long ago to a vault in the Obsidian Gates whose code only the AIs RAJ-750 and AKL-600 know. Reepsiq does not know its look or location. Inserted in the chamber, it would summon Kauket instantly.
Powers and abilities
He is a salamander-like amphibian, faster in water than on land. His skin paralyzes on touch, his tongue bites like vitriol, his mind resists psychic intrusion, he is immune to imposed sleep, charm, and the grip of water and ice, and he sees in the dark.
Role
- On an alert from the forward post, he readies the whole Ziggurat for combat (12 hours).
- Visitors from the Underearth, the heqeti’s origin, get a cautious, neutral welcome.
- Visitors from the floor of the Great Abyss are enemies on sight.
Varboka is a regional rival. The Seekers of Ardis Vala had not met him as of their return after the Hiatus.
