Description
Part scale, part skin, it is an “electric worm” of the kind also called blue dragons. It burrows into sand and fabricates whole riders and voices across the desert. It spied through acusadores (“accusers”), child-faced flies that record what they see.
History
- At the Piedras Negras dunes it faked the voice of U.S. Marshal Orlando, with Gabriel disguised beside it.
- It struck down the towers of La Fuente when Gorgona refused to hand over “some gringos who carry children”.
- Charmed after the dunes battle, it confessed it was a slave who became priest-guardian by killing the previous guardian, in a cycle the group would repeat: «La sangre con sangre se paga» (“Blood is paid with blood”). It then left to serve its sentence.
- It blew up the covered bridge of Piedras Negras, sinking the cart with the Atlantean chest into the Rio Grande.
- At the well of the uprooted tree it struck Stormy with lightning and collapse while Arriano, its ally, struck him from behind. Badly wounded, it fled into the dune.
Guardianship
Oximec called itself “the Guardian of the platform”, in the chain the Dual Corruption rotates. By the rule of the emissary, each platform has two guardians (eagle and serpent): Gabriel and Oximec are the pair of Aries, not successors. Gabriel’s half passes to Gorgona.
As a place
At the end of Antiterra, it names the inland Guadalajara region (nearest port: Puerto Vallarta). There each companion receives a white crystal faintly tinged with one color of the tower of Primoz, matching the six Shards of the Nexus Crystal (see Castle of the Prism).
