Gabriel is one of the two Guardians of the Platform of Aries, the first zodiacal Platform disturbed by the Deep Ones. A priest of a “malign conception”, he worships the Snow Queen — also called his bitter rival, at the north pole — and was killed in 1888.

Nature
He cannot control the wrath and violence of Aries. A Guardian must not be killed: whoever kills one becomes a Guardian, or is destroyed. Gabriel was already an angelic entity of the shared cosmos; another saga recalls his “more Mohammedan vibe” and that he forbade time travel.
History (1888)
- He came to the desert temple wreathed in flame — red cape, dragon-crested helm, torch — beside an efreet nearly twice his height. The Emissary forbade him to attack those already in the game, but not the efreet, and combat broke out.
- In the dunes of Piedras Negras he disguised himself as U.S. Marshal Orlando and, with Oximec, staged an illusory ambush invoking “the pacts of Abraham Milton”. A sorcerer fascinated with pacts and wishes, he was about to sacrifice two children the group rescued. The Cakravartin said he believed evil to be good.
- Despite the Atlantean king’s warning, he died in the ambush under Lotario’s missiles of light and Gorgona’s lightning. His loot included the red cloak of the six-fingered hand.
Two Guardians of Aries
Every platform has two guardians (eagle and serpent). Gabriel and Oximec coexisted; Oximec became guardian “by killing the previous guardian”. Gabriel’s death freed his half of the guardianship, which Gorgona inherited.
